When introducing SharePoint 2010 to a workplace that focuses on e-mails, or when working with an already installed MOSS 2007-environment at such a workplace: the integration of Outlook or Lotus Notes in conjunction with SharePoint and the functionality supplied by the manufacturer (Microsoft/IBM) as part of the package is a key issue.
Leaving social media components such as Facebook and also other services such the phone aside, the communication channels for digital communication mostly focus on e-mail: information contained in e-mails is forwarded to other team members fully or in parts, and requests are answered by members via e-mail. This focus leads to a situation where mail servers usually have to load huge attachments again and again, and no team member is really sure about the current state of a document and who is in charge of it.
